Duggan Associates is pleased to announce its first online training course in advanced Lean education. "Creating Mixed Model Value Streams - Practical Lean Techniques to Build to Demand". This course will include a free copy of Kevin Duggan’s popular book "Creating Mixed Model Value Streams - Practical Lean Techniques to Build to Demand" published by Productivity Press.

The demand for advanced Lean education has increased dramatically in recent years as companies reach the limits of their basic value stream mapping approaches to improvement. Although value stream mapping has become the common industry language, Lean practitioners realize that the simple high-volume and low-SKU manufacturing examples used to teach Value Stream Mapping are not in-depth enough to help them in their real life complex environments. They’re looking for training that helps them create real life future states in their variable-demand and mixed-model environments.

Duggan Associates has deep experience in delivering training courses to satisfy those needs. Our recently completed Lean expert series in Mixed Model Value Streams, Creating Flow through Shared Resources, Business Process Value Streams, and Train the Trainer is already helping large organizations such as Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky Aircraft, United Technologies, Singapore Airlines Engineering Co., United Airlines Services, Hamilton Sundstrand, Timken Bearing, and many others develop the internal expertise necessary to transform themselves and their supply chain into lean companies.

To make that knowledge even more widely available, Duggan Associates has partnered with a technology provider to release "Creating Mixed Model Value Streams - Practical Techniques to Build to Demand" accessible on any PC with an internet connection. The class allows for self-paced instruction on Mixed Model Lean techniques, and includes all of the concepts taught in Kevin Duggan’s book, including:

  • Creating value stream maps in real life manufacturing environments
  • Developing future states that can respond to daily changes in customer demand
  • How to create flow through the "pacemaker" when products in a family have different cycle times
  • Determine machine Loading and EPEI (Every Part Every Interval) for leveling the mix at the Pacemaker.
  • Creating mixed-model Heijunka (load leveling) boxes that provide visual schedules at regular intervals
  • Applying mixed-model logic and finished goods strategy to match seasonal demand

An interactive course menu allows students to repeat difficult topics and quiz sections to ensure mastery. The course uses multimedia techniques with a Narrator, a Student, and Kevin himself teaching. The student workbook is provided through a download so students can follow along and take notes on the slides. Each user is also provided with a complimentary copy of Creating Mixed Model Value Streams to further reinforce class concepts.
